History - Four-star Englischer Hof Hotel in Herzberg am Harz
The houses in the suburbs, built in around 1640, are among the oldest in the city and were mainly inhabited by craftsmen from the royal arms factory or farmers.
On 17 February 1800, the property, which until then had been exclusively used for agricultural purposes, was granted a licence for an inn by the "Königlich-Großbritannische zur Kurfürstlich Braunschweig-Lüneburgischen Regierung". (Personal Union of Hannover with the United Kingdom) The historical influence of the English royal house was probably the reason for the name 'Englischer Hof'.
